 Early New Years Celebration
Last night, Steve took me out to dinner at Shula's Steak House. For those of you who aren't big sports fans, Don Shula is probably the most beloved ex-Dolphin coach. He owns a few uppity/expensive restaurants in Miami. We don't normally go to places like that, but Steve has been dieing to go for a while and we decided that would be our big New Years Celebration.
It was a lovely night. We got there a little early for our reservation, so we sat at one of the tables near the bar to wait. While we were sitting there, Steve had his eye on the television because the Peach Bowl was on and his favorite college team (Miami Hurricanes) was playing against LSU. As usual, Steve was making some noises & gestures as he got into the game. I had point out that this was not the kind of place where people do that. I looked around and only saw one other guy even watching the game. Then, I noticed that the guy had 2 big rings on. I pointed him out to Steve because the rings looked like championship rings. Right away, Steve realized that it was Jim Mandwich (sp?) nicknamed Mad Dog. He was the tight end for the 1972 undefeated Dolphins team and now he has a talk show on AM radio. He looked over at us and nodded.
About 20 minutes later, Steve got up to go to the restroom and ran into him in the hallway. Steve told him that he loves his show and they shook hands. Jim asked him if this was our first baby, which of course Steve said yes. Then he said, "It is a great way to start the New Year." Steve ended by saying that he didn't want to interrupt Mad Dog's evening with his family, but that he enjoyed meeting him.
Not bad for our big New Years celebration and Steve's dream of eating at Shula's. Oh & the food was excellent. Unfortunately, it price was about 2 weeks worth of groceries. So tonight, we are going to lay low and just enjoy each others' company.

tabs on me.
For
people who don't know me, I come from a big family (3 brothers & 1
